THE NATURAL WAY TO BREAK YOUR SMOKING HABIT
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

In the first study to explore the effects of food and beverages on the taste of cigarettes, 209 smokers were asked to name items that worsen or enhance cigarettes' taste.

Smokers reported that drinking milk or water, or eating fruits and vegetables, worsened the taste of cigarettes. On the other hand, alcohol, coffee and meat enhanced the taste of cigarettes. These findings could lead to a diet that makes it easier to quit smoking.

Nineteen percent of the smokers said that dairy products worsen the taste of cigarettes, 16 percent said that fruits and vegetables did so, and 14 percent reported the same effect for water and juice. Alcohol enhanced the taste for 44 percent, while 45 percent said the same of caffeinated beverages and 11 percent found the taste was enhanced after eating meat.

Smokers of menthol cigarettes were less likely to say that foods or beverages altered the taste of their cigarettes.

Silver acetate is known to alter the taste of cigarettes, and it has been suggested that it could be used in the form of a gum or a lozenge as part of a treatment to help smokers quit.

SMOKING LIKED TO IMPOTENCE, HEARING PROBLEMS
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

If heart disease, stroke and certain cancers haven’t been reason enough for men to quit smoking, consider this: The habit also increases the risk of erectile dysfunction and hearing problems.

In fact, emerging research shows that men with a pack –a – day habit are almost 40 percent more likely to struggle with erectile dysfunction than men, who doesn’t smoke. Smoking delivers nicotine and other vasoconstrictors that close down the blood vessels of the penis, explained Dr Jack Mydlo, chairman of urology at temple university school of medicine and hospital in Philadelphia.

Erectile dysfunction also called “ED” or impotence is the inability to achieve or sustain an erection or repeated occasions. It is estimated that about two every 100 American men have erectile dysfunction serious enough to warrant a doctor’s visit, according to the US National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney disorders. As men age, the risk of erectile dysfunction increase

A recent study of more than 8,000 Australians men between the age of 16 and 59 found that those who smoked less than a pack a day had a 24 percent increased risk of erectile problems. And as the number of Cigarettes smoked went up so too did the chances of erectile dysfunction .
Those men, who averaged more than 20 Cigarette a day increased their risk of erectile dysfunction by 39 percent, reported the study, published in journal Tobacco control. Another study, this one published in the America journal of Epidemiology found that male smokers in the 40s were more likely to experience erectile difficulties than older non-smoking males. The risk of erectile dysfunction were nearly doubled for smoking men in their 40s compared to non smokers in their 50s. Smoking because it caused blood vessel constriction is a very big cause of erectile dysfunction said Dr Larry Lipshaltz, Chief of male reproduction medicine at Baylor college of medicine in Houston.
Smoking isn’t the only cause of ms said Larry added, impotence problems other life style habits can have a big impact on men sexual health. Obesity heavy alcohol consumption and recreational drug use can all cause erectile dysfunction. And a sedentary life style can also contribute to erectile difficulties in three major ways by reducing blood flow, causing nerve damage or changing the hormonal environment while there are medications that can help treat erectile dysfunction both mydlo and lipshultz adavocated a healthy good sexual health.
Take better care of your self. make sure you are not Obese, eat well, exercise and if you have diabetes or hypertension , make sure they are re-controlled. You may not need medication to treat erectile dysfunction.
Mydlo advice adding stop smoking, drink in moderation, lose weight, maintain good blood pressure. One more word of caution . Don’t use ED medications Viagra, Cialis . If you don’t need them. Erections that last longer than four hours priaiism can cause permanent impotence. Its not a good ideal to use these drugs casually
Meanwhile Teenagers who smoker or whose mother smoked in pregnancy are higher risk of hearing problems and understanding what is being said to them. A united state study says.
In tests on 67 teenagers Yale university found those exposed to smoke had trouble focusing and interpreting sounds when there was a distraction and the team said that scans showed exposed changed the white matter responding for transmitting messages. The findings were reported in New Scientist Magazine. The team carried out brain scans on the teenagers and found those exposed to smoke were likely to have more white matter.
Smoking is dangerous to health. Be wise
Thanks.

Company that kill almost 5 million people every year.
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Tobacco is the dried leaf of a plant that grows in many parts of the world. Tobacco contains many chemicals including a drug called nicotine, which is a mild stimulant and very addictive, tar and carbon monoxide (the same gas that car exhausts pump out).
Tobacco is found in cigarettes and cigars. Cigarettes may also be known as; fags, smokes, joints and roll-ups.
What are the immediate effects of smoking?
Nicotine is a powerful, fast acting drug, when smoke is inhaled, the nicotine effect hits the brain about 8 seconds later. Nicotine speeds up the heart rate and increases blood pressure. The carbon monoxide in tobacco smoke greatly affects the heart as it reduces the bloods ability to carry oxygen. Nicotine helps reduce stress, anxiety and boredom. However, this effect fades quickly, which encourages continual use. If you are a first time user it may make you feel sick. If you smoke regularly it makes your breath smell (known as halitosis) and can turn your fingers and teeth yellowy-brown.
Did you know smoking could affect the way you look?
Most people know smoking seriously affects internal organs, particularly the heart and lungs, but did you know it also affects a person’s appearance by altering the skin, body weight and shape. Smoking can also have a noticeable ageing effect on the body.
A smoker’s skin is estimated to wrinkle up to 20 years earlier than that of a non-smoker.
The skin is affected by tobacco in two ways,
firstly tobacco released into the environment has a drying effect on the skin’s surface.
Secondly, because smoking restricts blood vessels, it reduces the amount of blood flowing to the skin, so depriving your skin of oxygen and essential nutrients.
Body weight and shape can be greatly affected by smoking tobacco. Smokers in general tend to be thinner than non-smokers
because nicotine acts as an appetite suppressant and increases the metabolic rate.
What are the long-term effects of smoking tobacco?
Tobacco and smoking cause long-term damage to your health and can kill. Smoking causes chest problems, cancer, infertility and heart disease. Smoking may also lead to an earlier menopause. Lung cancer is the cancer most associated with smoking. Lung cancer kills more people than any other type of cancer and at least 80% of these deaths are caused by smoking. However, there are other types of cancer, which can be caused by smoking, these include: cancer of the mouth, lip and throat, cervical cancer, anal cancer, pancreatic cancer, bladder cancer and leukaemia. Tobacco contributes to at least 2000 limb amputations each year. Smoking will also raise your blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure and these 2 factors are the main 2 reasons why people get coronary heart disease. Smoking accounts for 30,000 heart disease deaths in the U.K. every year.
Every puff of a cigarette irritates the lining in your mouth. This can lead to sores, ulcers and can damage your gums, causing you to loose your teeth.

On average smokers have far more complications during pregnancy such as premature birth or even a still-birth. Women who smoke during pregnancy are also at risk of giving birth to a lighter baby (an average 8ozs/200 grams lighter than babies born to non-smokers) and a low birth weight is associated with higher risks of death and disease in infancy and early childhood. There is also an increased risk of cot death in babies whose mother has smoked during pregnancy.
Smoking in men has also been associated with low sperm counts and impotence.
Smoking is expensive, 10 cigarettes a day will cost approximately £800 upwards each year.
What about passive smoking?
Breathing in other peoples smoke, known as passive smoking can cause breathing difficulties, asthma and cancer.
More than 17,000 children under the age of 5 are admitted to hospital every year because of the effects of passive smoking. Children are more susceptible to the effects of passive smoking and children who live in a household where both parents smoke, are receiving a nicotine equivalent of smoking 80 cigarettes a day.
Are there any laws on the sale of tobacco?
It is illegal for a shop-keeper to sell tobacco to anyone under the age of 16 in the U.K., although the use of tobacco products by children under the age of 16 is not illegal.
